Congratulations, to Our 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Emily Day!

Emily Day has worked for Gadsden City Schools for 25 years as a Special Education Teacher. She holds degrees in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, and TESOL. She has written several articles and presented at conferences on teaching self-advocacy and student-led IEPs. She loves working with children and adolescents of all ages, problem-solving, and being creative with her lessons. Her instruction centers on job readiness skills to prepare students for employment and living independently. She has worked diligently with her co-workers to build one of the top transition programs for students with disabilities in the state. She takes pride in all that her former students have accomplished as well as what her current students are accomplishing. Mrs. Day is the Special Olympics Cheer Coach. As the cheer coach, she works with students with intellectual disabilities and their peers on a Unified Cheer Squad. As the sponsor of YAiT (Young Adults in Transition), she invites former students and service providers to mentor students with disabilities, and she orchestrates a buddy program between the special needs students and their peers. Mrs. Day and her husband, Jason, recently became foster parents. In her free time, she introduces 4, 5, and 6 year-olds to U-6 soccer, hikes our national parks, and travels abroad for fun and on missions with her church.

We are proud of you, Mrs. Day, and we love you!
